Tic Tac Toe unblocked: play Tic Tac Toe online free right here in your browser — no download, no sign-up, works on a school Chromebook.

This Tic Tac Toe is the retro, one-screen version of noughts and crosses: a black board, a three-by-three grid drawn in white, and short beeps when a mark goes down. You are always X. Switch it to one-player and the computer takes O; switch it to two-player and a friend takes O on the same device. It loads in a second and needs nothing more than a click or a tap.

The hero game on this site is about one well-aimed shot setting off a chain. Tic Tac Toe asks for the same thing on a much smaller board: read the board, pick the one square that matters, and make the other side react to you.

How to play

Click or tap an empty square to place your mark. Three in a row — across, down or diagonally — wins the round, and the winning line lights up. When all nine squares fill with no line, the round is a tie. After a round ends, click the board to start the next one.

  • 1P / 2P: click the score bar under the board to switch between playing the computer and playing a friend.
  • Who starts: the first move alternates every round, so the computer opens every other game in one-player mode.
  • Scores: the bar keeps three counts — your wins, ties, and the computer's (or Player 2's) wins. One-player and two-player keep separate tallies, and switching modes brings the other tally back.
  • Sound: the speaker icon in the corner mutes the beeps, and the game remembers that choice.

How the computer plays

The computer is not perfect, and that is on purpose. On an almost empty board it often drops its mark on a random square instead of the best one. After that it looks one move ahead: it always takes a winning square when it has one, and otherwise picks the square that leaves it the most open lines compared with yours. It does not always spot a threat you are building, which means a careful player can beat it — something you cannot do against a flawless opponent.

Winning tips

  1. Open in a corner. A corner is part of three lines and gives the computer the most chances to answer wrongly. If it does not reply in the centre, you can usually set up two threats at once.
  2. Build a fork. A fork is a move that creates two lines of two at the same time. Only one can be blocked, so the other wins.
  3. When the computer starts, take the centre. If it opened in a corner, the centre is the only reply that is safe; after that, block every two-in-a-row and look for its mistakes.
  4. Against a friend, expect a tie. Two careful players always draw on a three-by-three board. The tie counter is the real score in two-player games.

Good to know

The scores live only in the open page; a refresh starts every count from zero again. The board scales to the window, and touch works the same as a mouse, so it plays on a phone or a Chromebook without changes.

Questions about Tic Tac Toe

Is Tic Tac Toe unblocked at school?

Tic Tac Toe runs in an ordinary browser tab from ineedmorebullets.org, with nothing to download or install, so it plays on most school Chromebooks and work computers. If a network filter blocks the site, only that network's administrator can change it.

Can you beat the computer in this Tic Tac Toe?

Yes. It often opens on a random square and only looks one move ahead, so a fork — two threats at once — usually wins.

How do I play Tic Tac Toe with two players?

Click the score bar under the board to switch from 1P to 2P. Both players then take turns on the same screen, X first.

Who goes first?

The first move alternates every round. In one-player mode that means the computer opens every other game.
