What Spider Solitaire asks of you
Spider Solitaire is played with two full decks spread across the tableau. Your job is to build each column from King down to Ace. When a column holds a full run from King to Ace, it leaves the table, and the game ends once every card has been cleared. When you run out of useful moves, take a fresh row from the stockpile and keep going.
This browser version comes from InfinityGames, a small studio in Portugal that also makes Infinity Loop, Energy and Wood Blocks 3D. It first went out in November 2021, and it runs the same way on a laptop, a phone or a tablet.
Choosing a difficulty: 1, 2 or 4 suits
The game's difficulty comes from how many suits are in play:
- 1 suit – every card is the same suit, so any lower card can go on any higher one. This is the mode to learn on.
- 2 suits – you can still stack mixed suits, but only a run in one suit moves as a group. You start planning around that.
- 4 suits – the classic hard deal. Mixed stacks pile up quickly, and clearing a column takes real patience.
Start with one suit until clearing the table feels routine, then move up. Your statistics screen keeps a record of how each mode is going.
Controls
It is all mouse or touch. Click a card or run to pick it up, then click the column you want to put it on. When you are stuck, the lightbulb and the other hint icons show you a legal move. A free reshuffle is there when a deal looks dead, and the magic wand power-up gets you out of a tight spot.
Habits that win more deals
- Empty a column early. An empty column is the most useful spot on the table, because any card or run can go there.
- Keep runs in one suit when you can. A mixed stack looks tidy, but it cannot move as one piece in 2-suit or 4-suit mode.
- Turn over face-down cards before you deal. Every new row from the stock covers your columns, so free up as much as you can first.
- Look before you move a King. A King can only go to an empty column, so don't spend an empty column on it unless it uncovers something useful.
Making it your own
You can change the theme and the card backs in the settings, which helps on a dim screen or a long session. The game is calm, with no timer forcing you, so it suits a short break: deal, think, and undo a move with a hint when a line goes wrong.
